Fentanyl injection is used to treat unbearable pain during and after surgery. It is also used in combination with other medicines just before or during surgery to increase the effectiveness of the anesthetic (numbing agent). Fentanyl is a member of the class of drugs known as narcotic analgesics, or pain relievers.
