While the stereotype of a lawyer as someone who is always victorious in court is a popular one, most lawyers spend more time advising clients on the law than fighting cases in courtrooms. Regardless, attorneys are required to represent their clients in legal proceedings, which includes appearing in court and negotiating settlements. Attorneys are primarily responsible for providing legal advice, preparing and reviewing documents, conducting research, and assisting with case preparation. In addition, they must be able to understand and interpret complex statutes and regulations.
