Underwriting uses the actuarial science of ratemaking to select, accept or reject applicants. It then calculates the rates for each applicant, taking into account the likelihood of loss. People who share characteristics with high-claims groups will be charged higher premiums, while those with low-claims rates will be offered cheaper General Liability Insurance policies.
