Ativan is a prescription medicine used to cure status epilepticus in adults, manage panic and anxiety in some children and adults, and help produce sedation in adults before they get anesthesia for surgery. It was first invented by Wyeth Pharmaceuticals in 1978. Ativan consists of the active drug lorazepam.
