There is an intriguing story behind the making of Rajaji Tiger Reserve. In 1948 C. Rajagopalachari, the principal Indian Governor General who had come to Dehradun, was welcomed for a hunting campaign in the Shooting Block of the then Dehradun Forest Division. Seeing the flawless woods loaded with natural life, the Governor General wouldn't chase and on second thought recommended that the region be saved to safeguard the backwoods and natural life.
