An anti-insomnia medication, Ambien, treats insomnia in people suffering from it. Ambien belongs to a class of drugs called sedative-hypnotics or sedative-hypnotics. Ambien is used alone or with other sleep medications to treat insomnia. It may also be used to try and stop the effects of alcohol withdrawal symptoms or help with anxiety or muscle spasms, or shakiness (tremor) caused by Parkinson’s disease.
