Each year, approximately 6200 MDS seats are available, with 50% allocated to states and the other 50% going to the All India Quota. The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Masters of Dental Surgery, or NEET MDS exam, is given online using computerized methods. Neither state nor university level in India recognizes any other exams as qualifying for admission to MDS programs. The NEET MDS is a test for eligibility and final rank. Results from the NEET MDS have been accepted by most of India's top 100 dental colleges. A number of state exam boards also accept the NEET MDS results, which are utilized to consider applicants for admission to various dental programs offered by the state.
