As an analgesic and antitussive, hydrocodone is an opioid agonist. Extended-launch hydrocodone products, such as Zohydro ER and Hysingla ER, can be used to treat severe pain 24/7. It is typically used in combination with acetaminophen to treat moderate to severe pain. For pain, extended-launch hydrocodone should not be used on an as-wanted basis. It is offered as a syrup, tablet, capsule, and oral administration method. 5–10 mg 4-6 hours a day is the recommended dosage.
