Fucosylation is a biological activity that is frequently seen in plants, bacteria, fungus, vertebrates, and invertebrates. It is becoming more and more accepted that the fucose moiety on the cell surface glycans is necessary for signaling and cell-to-cell interactions. Phase 1 clinical trials are now discussing the advantages of better homing and trafficking as a result of immune cell-surface fucosylation.
